BACKUP DIRECTHow do I reinstall the agent?
This tutorial will guide you through the process of re-installing your Attix 5 Desktop and Laptop (DL) software on your computer after buying a new machine or rebuilding an old one.
- You will need the installer you used during the initial setup as well as your account details to proceed.
- If you cannot locate your installer or account details please contact our Support Team on 0800 0789 438
- To get started with the installer click on the A5DLW32v5 (or similar depending on your operating environment eg. A5DLW64v6) installer which you downloaded
- You may see a warning message regarding a digital signature for the program. If you downloaded the installer as directed and it has the A5DLW32v6 (or similar depending on your operating environment) file name then it is safe to proceed
- Click Run to proceed with the install
- Click Next to proceed
- At this point the installer will ask for a location on your hard drive to install the agent.
- It is recommended that you use the default location as shown below, however if you know of a specific alternative then you can enter it manually or click Change to browse for a location
- Click Next
- Click Next to begin installing the agent with the settings you have given
- You may see a box warning that the installer is attempting to make changes to your computer
- You should always check that the source of the warning is the program that you are running or expecting to see.
- In this case we can see that the warning has come from A5DLW32v6.msi (or similar depending on your operating environment eg. A5DLW64v6.msi) which is what we clicked on the desktop, it is therefore safe to proceed.
- Click Allow to permit the installer to access your computer
- The installer will run and display various messages as it performs the necessary tasks
- Upon successful installation a notification will be displayed.
- As a default the Attix 5 Backup Professional agent will run after clicking Finish, you can uncheck the box near the bottom of the window if you do not want the agent to run immediately
- Click Finish to exit the installer and run the agent
- Click Next to continue with creating a new account
- You can now see the default startup view of the agent which we have just installed
- There are two options when running the agent for the first time. In this case we are focusing on the re-install process so need to select the Connect to existing backup account option
- Click on the bottom option
- Click Next to proceed
- At this point you will need to enter your account details to validate the connection to your backed-up data.
- Click in the first field to enter your username
- Then click and enter your password
- Then click and enter your Encryption key
- Click Next to proceed
- When attempting to connect to a previously exisiting account you will see this warning.
- IMPORTANT: You will experience data loss and conflicting backups if you attempt to link more than one working machine to a single account
- If you understand the warning and want to proceed click OK
- You will then be asked about your connection settings. The default option is to use a broadband or other permanent connection.
- If you are using a dial-up connection then you may have some issues using the backup agent. Please contact the Support Team on 0800 0789 438
- Click Next to proceed
- You will then be prompted to choose an automatic backup schedule, this stage is not covered in this tutorial. Please see the designated video on selecting files and scheduling backups for more information
- Click Next to continue
- The Attix5 agent uses a series of folders in order to function correctly. At this point it is possible to view and change the location of these folders.
- It is recommended that you leave the defaults selected. If you need to use alternative folder locations, for example on a NAS drive, then please contact Support on 0800 0789 438
- Click Next to continute
- You will then see a summary of the settings you have given for the reconnection
- Upon successful reconnection you will see a notification
- Click OK to exit the window
- The agent will then be available for backup and restore as with your previous installation. The machine which you have just performed the installation on is singularly linked to your backup account.
- All your previous backups and data should be present under the restore tab. If this is not the case please contact Support on 0800 0789 438
This concludes the tutorial on reconnecting your Attix5 agent to an existing account
