BACKUP DIRECTHow do I reset my password or encryption key?

During the initial install of the agent you will have created a series of account details which identify your account and allow you to log in securely.

  • This tutorial will demonstrate how to change some of these account details using the inbuilt tools of the agent.
  • To bring up the agent you will need to access the start menu which is located in the bottom left corner of all Windows environments
  • Click the Start menu
  • If you have run the Agent recently it will appear on this shortcut list shown on the left. If not then you will need to locate it in the All Programs item.
  • To do this click All Programs
  • Click Attix5 Backup Professional
  • Click Attix5 Backup Professional to launch the agent
  • You may receive a security warning
  • You should always try to verify that the program which is listed matches with that which you have chosen to run.
  • You will see that A5Tray.exe is listed which is the Attix5 agent which we clicked
  • Click Allow to open the Agent
  • We will now proceed to changing the password and encryption key for this account
  • Click Tools
  • Click Options
  • The Options page displays a range of useful information and options relating to your account
  • The Account Information section shows your Group name (Which is the group your account resides in at the data centre) and your Username which is the name you entered when you created the account
  • The Account setup section gives shortcuts to changing security credentials
  • First we will change the account password
  • First click in the password field then enter your new desired password.
  • You are required to enter your password twice in order to ensure it has been entered correctly.
  • The password can be of your choosing, but we recommend you protect the security of your account by using at least 8 characters and some capital letters and numbers.
  • IMPORTANT: These details will be required to login to your online account, or to reinstall the agent at a later date. You must therefore keep them safe and available for the duration of your use of the agent
  • Once you have entered the password twice click OK to process the change
  • Here you can see the request to change the password has been sent to the data centre to be authenticated and registered.
  • You will see a notification like the one above if the change has been successful
  • We will now look at changing the Encryption key. The key is used to encrypt all of your backed up data for your security and confidentiality
  • Similar to resetting the password you must enter the Old enryption key once and enter the new key twice for verification
  • IMPORTANT: This encryption key is known only to you, the Backup Direct Support Team have no access to it and cannot retrieve it if lost.
  • You must keep this safe, if you do not then any data stored at the data centre will be irretrievable should you need to re-install the agent
  • You will need to fill in all the other required fields covering your personal details.
  • Once complete click OK to send the request
  • Similar to the password change, the process will be sent to the data centre and a succesful change will be confirmed
  • You can also reactivate the Setup Wizard which you will have completed during the initial installation in order to add new accounts or reconfigure settings
  • NB using the Setup Wizard option will reset elements of your account and require you to re-back up your files. As directed in the warning window you should therefore only use this option if specifically directed to so
  • Click cancel to exit
  • The Tools menu has a range of other settings which can be configured according to your requirements. The following points explore these options and explain how they can be used.
  • The majority of setting covered in the installation can be reaccessed by clicking on the list of options in the left hand bar with the blue and grey buttons next to various titles.
  • Click the menu option on the left titled Backup Schedule where scheduling options can be configured, please see the relevant tutorial for more information
  • Now click on the Performance and Limits menu option. If you are having issues with the agent slowing down your machine whilst it is processing a backup then you can use these settings to restrict use of system resources.
  • It is generally not recommended to change these settings unless you are confident with IT or under the direction of our support team
  • Click OK to exit the tools menu

We have now covered how to use the range of available tools in the Attix5 DL agent. Using this information you will be able to reset some of your own account details and change settings to optimise the performance of your backup.
