BACKUP DIRECTHow do I install plugins and setup email notifications?
The following tutorial is a step by step guide to installing or updating plugins in your Attix5 SE software.
- To proceed with this process on your own server you will need to have Attix5 SE fully and correctly installed.
- To proceed you will need the plugin installer package which can be downloaded from our website at www.backupdirect.net/A5PI
- Double click on the installer package from wherever you have downloaded it
- You may see a box warning that the installer is attempting to make changes to your computer. You should always check that the source of the warning is the program that you are running or expecting to see
- In this case we can see that the warning has come from A5PI.exe which is the legitimate name of the installer, it is therefore safe to proceed.
- Click Yes to permit the installer to access your computer
- At this point you will need to close the agent if you have it running on your machine, this is so the plugin installer can access files which are shared by both the agent and plugins. (If you do not recieve a warning then please disregard this step and move to step 13)
- Click OK to the notification
- Click on the close button to exit the agent
- Now run the installer again if required
- Click Yes
- At this point the installer will ask for a location on your hard drive to setup the plugin installer.
- It is recommended that you use the default location, however if you know of a specific alternative then you can enter it manually or click Browse to select another location
- Click Next
- The displayed page should display plugins which are already installed and those which are available for install using this program (see colour coding chart in the same window)
- To select or deselect plugins from the list click on the tick boxes to the left of the name
- Once you have selected all of your desired plugins click Next to proceed
- Check the summary of changes and click on Apply requested changes
- The installer will then process the changes
- Upon successful changes you will see a notification.
- Click Finish
- We will now examine the process for configuring your selected installed plugins
- Click on the Attix5 icon in the notification area to open the agent
- Click on Tools
- Click on Plugins
- Here you will see a list of all the plugins which you have installed. Each can be configured separately, for specific setup enquiries please contact our support team directly on 0800 0789 438
- We will focus on the Email notification plugin which is important to administering your backup account
- Click on Email Notificaton
- To enable Email notifications click in top checkbox
- We would recommend that you demand the maximum level of detail in your reports to aid in troubleshooting any backup errors
- You should check the relevant box to notify you directly if a backup fails (you can change the message subject if you wish)
- Check this next box to notify you via email on the event of every succesful backup
- Check the fourth option down to add additional information to the subject line of the notification email
- In order to setup email notifications you need to enter your mail server settings and email addresses.
- The To field specifies the person who will recieve the notifications
- The From field determines who the email will appear to have been sent by
- The SMTP server is the address of your mail server which will process the email notifications.
- NB: You may need to use the authentication option to succesfully send and recieve notifications. If you are unsure about this or your SMTP address please contact your IT administrator or our support team
- You will need to replace the domain placeholder with your own domain extension
- Change the other settings accordingly and then use the Test function to ensure you have used the correct settings
- We would also recommend you click to Attach log file near the bottom of the window. This allows you to have error details to hand should you need to use them or pass them on to our support team
- Once you have completed filling in the settings click OK
