BACKUP DIRECTHow do I reinstall the agent?

This tutorial will guide you through the process of re-installing your Attix 5 Server Edition (SE) software on your computer after buying a new machine or rebuilding an old one.

You will need the installer you used during the initial setup as well as your account details to proceed.

If you cannot locate your installer or account details please contact our Service Team on 0800 0789 438.

  • To get started with the installer double click on the A5SE64v6 (or similar depending on your operating environment) installer which you downloaded
  • Click Next to proceed - this step instructs the agent which user account it should use. This facility should be used if the agent requires certain permissions to reach files or folders for backup. An account with the required permissions should be entered into the Run under the user account. Please contact our Service Team if you are not sure what to enter here.
  • Typically the default option of Run as LocalSystem is fine so we will leave it selected for this demonstration
  • Click Next to proceed
  • At this point the installer will ask for a location on your hard drive to install the agent.
  • It is recommended that you use the default location , however if you know of a specific alternative then you can enter it manually or click Change to browse for a location
  • Click Next to proceed
  • Click Install to proceed
  • You may see a box warning that the installer is attempting to make changes to your computer
  • You should always check that the source of the warning is the program that you are running or expecting to see.
  • In this case we can see that the warning has come from A5SE64v6.msi which is what we clicked on the desktop, it is therefore safe to proceed.
  • Click Yes to permit the installer to access your computer
  • The installer will run and display various messages as it performs the necessary tasks
  • Upon successful installation you will see a notification.
  • As a default the Attix 5 Backup Professional agent will run after clicking Finish, you can uncheck the box below if you do not want the agent to run immediately
  • Click Finish to exit the installer and run the agent
  • You can now see the default startup view of the agent which we have just installed
  • There are two options when running the agent for the first time. In this case we are focusing on the re-install process so need to select the Connect to existing backup account option
  • Click on the bottom option
  • Click Next to proceed
  • Enter your username in the first box, this should have been created using the naming convention shown below
  • Click and enter your password
  • Then click to enter your Encryption key
  • Click Next to proceed
  • When attempting to connect to a previously exisiting account you will see a warning.
  • IMPORTANT: You will experience data loss and conflicting backups if you attempt to link more than one working machine to a single account
  • If you understand the warning and want to proceed click OK
  • You will then be asked about your connection settings. The default option is to use a broadband or other permanent connection. If you are using a dial-up connection then you may have some issues using the backup agent. Please contact the Support Team on 0800 0789 438
  • Click next to proceed
  • You will then be prompted to choose an automatic backup schedule, this stage is not covered in this tutorial. Please see the designated video on selecting files and scheduling backups for more information
  • Click Next to continue
  • The Attix5 agent uses a series of folders in order to function correctly. At this point it is possible to view and change the location of these folders.
  • It is recommended that you leave the defaults selected. If you need to use alternative folder locations, for example on a NAS drive, then please contact Support on 0800 0789 438
  • Click Next to continue
  • This option is used to configure the optional add-ons to the Attix5 Server Edition agent. If you are familiar with their setup you can select them and configure as desired.
  • If you are unfamiliar with the setup or do not wish to use the 'plug-ins' then ignore this section.
  • There is a seperate tutorial which explains the installation of the plug-ins
  • Click Next to continue
  • This page shows a summary of all the details and settings which we have just configured.
  • Please check them and use the Back button shown below if you need to return and change any of the details
  • When you are happy to proceed with the details listed click Next
  • This confirmation indicates your account has been successfully created with the settings you selected.
  • It also lists your Account limit (amount of data you can backup) which will vary depending on what you purchased from us
  • Click OK to exit

We have now covered how to Reinstall the Attix5 Server Edition Agent on your computer and use it to reconnect to an existing account.

This should allow you to see previously backed up data using the agent and restore it if necessary.

Please see other tutorials for information on selecting, backing up, and restoring data.
