BACKUP DIRECTHow do I restore files using the agent?
This tutorial will show you how to restore files that you have previously backed up using the Attix5 technology on a Windows based machine.
- First click your start menu which is located in the bottom left-hand corner of your screen.
- The appearance will vary depending on your version of Windows, however it should consist of a 4-colour icon.
- Then click the All Programs button
- Click on the Attix5 Backup Professional folder
- Click on the Backup Client SE icon
- Once the agent is running the blue icon will appear in the bottom right corner as shown
- Double click on the icon to open the agent
- Once you have opened the Attix5 program you will a welcome screen
- NB. The folders in the left hand column will vary depending on your own files and backup selection
- To begin the restore process click the restore tab
- In this example we will retrieve files from the Last Backup heading.
- It is also possible to view a range of historical backups using the Previous Backups option at the bottom of the folder list in the left hand column
- NB. the last backup is restored from the local cache, however the previous backups are stored at the data center meaning they will be brought down over the Internet.
- The files you can restore will be structured in the same way as when they were backed up. For example: My Documents, in your Windows user folder, in the main C: drive
- Use the + icons under Last Backup to expand the folder structure down to the level of your backed up files
- Right click on the desired folder to bring up the menu
- Click on Select folder in order to select that folder for restore from the available selection
- Here you can see the My Media Folder has been coloured green indicating it is selected for restore
- Now click restore to start recovering the selected files
- You will then see this menu with the different Restore file options
- You can choose to restore files to the Original location, or to a specific Folder
- Click Browse to view the Restore directory menu
- Here you can choose any target folder location on your computer to restore the files and folders
- In this tutorial however we will be restoring to the Original location so click cancel to exit the menu
- When using the Original location option the program will then automatically attempt to restore the files to the same location they were backed up from.
- This is the easiest option if you have lost or accidentally deleted the original file, or if you wish to replace the version you have on your computer with an older version you have backed up.
- Click the Original location button
- Click OK to start the Restore
- The program will then connect to the internet and begin processing the restore, the actual process you will see is very similar to the backup but in reverse
- The status of the restore will be shown in the central window. At the bottom of the list you should see a message saying "Successfully completed restore" indicating that you can proceed
- Click OK to exit the window
- You should verify that the files have been restored to the correct location
- You should find that the files which we restored have been placed back in the original folder and are intact and ready for use
- If this is the case then the restore has been successful!
- These simple steps allow you to restore files quickly and easily to a location of your choice.
We encourage you to try this process ahead of any actual data loss, to ensure that you have all your important data backed up, and are familiar with the steps required to recover it.
