SUPPORTBacking up Microsoft Outlook Password protected PST files

This advice applies to Connected PC Service

Connected EmailOptimizer™ can back up password-protected Outlook® Personal Folder files when you are logged onto the computer during a backup and Outlook is open. It obtains the required passwords from Outlook, but does not save that information for future backups.

You can provide the Agent with the passwords required to access password-protected Personal Folder files for backups when Outlook is closed and/or you are not logged in.

Use the Microsoft Outlook Passwords window to provide the password information. When using this window, close Outlook on your computer so that the Agent can verify the password.

To access the Window , select Tools >Options > Email passwords

To add password information:

  1. Click Outlook Password. The Add Outlook Password window opens.
  2. Click Add
  3. Click Browse to select the password-protected Personal Folder file (*.pst file), or enter the path and file name.
  4. Enter the Password needed to access the Personal Folder file. Passwords are case-sensitive.
  5. Click OK.

An error window opens if the Agent cannot verify the password because Outlook is open, or if the password is incorrect. If that happens, click Close and correct the problem.

To edit password information:

  1. Select the entry you want to edit, and then click Edit. The Edit Outlook Password window opens.
  2. Edit the file name or password as needed. Passwords are case-sensitive.
  3. Click OK.

An error window opens if the Agent cannot verify the password because Outlook is open, or if the password is incorrect. If that happens, click Close and correct the problem.

To delete password information:

  1. Select the entry you want to delete, and then click Remove.
  2. Click OK.
