BACKUP DIRECTConfiguring Kaspersky 2010 for use with Connected 8

This tutorial will show you how to configure your Kaspersky 2010 Security software to allow the Backup Direct Connected PC Backup software to function.

Firewalls or other elements of security software can sometimes block our backup software from accessing the internet. This is because they falsely mark the backup technology as being harmful or unknown. It is therefore necessary to follow these instructions, without taking these measures you may be unable to use our service.

  • Double click on the Norton Internet Security icon to run the software.
  • Click on My Security Zone.
  • Click Application Activity.

Notice that Kaspersky has identified the Connected agent in this list monitored applications. Typically Kaspersky will classify the agent as being in a Low Restricted category, this should not restrict the normal function of the agent, but if you do experience problems please take the following steps:

  • Click on the status field in the agent.exe row with the connected logo.
  • Click to change the status to Trusted from the drop down list.
  • Click Close.

When you run the Connected agent for the first time after installing Kaspersky you may receive an immediate notification. The notification is triggered by the normal function of the backup software agent. By clicking 'Make Trusted' you indicate that you want to allow the agent to perform as it desires and grant access the internet when required.

We recommend you click 'Make Trusted' for Connected PC Backup. The Connected Agent service can now communicate through your firewall and function correctly. The rest of your firewall operation including other blocked programs or services should remain unchanged.
