Common File Types and Applications for backupWe have put together a table of common file types and applications that you may wish to protect using Backup Direct. There are also various tips on ensuring a successful backup and restore experience. Configuring FirewallsIf you have to configure a corporate firewall, check the information contained here. Most PC backup environments should not require this - you should set the Backup Direct /PC agent to 'Do not use a firewall'. Personal firewalls such as Norton Internet Security (PDF), McAffee (PDF), Zone Alarms (PDF) need to be set to allow Backup Direct /PC to connect to the internet. System State BackupLiveVault server vaulting can backup the system state of the server automatically and the information here does not apply. Backup Direct /PC can backup the system state when used in 'Full System mode' only. In all other cases, please refer to the Microsoft article here for how to backup the system state and registry manually, to then be included in the off-site backup. |

Use this to run reports, upgrade or cancel accounts, reset password and access other security details. You will need your Technician ID and Password to access this resource (authorised technicians only). Billing & SupportCustomer access to billing and support information. Access to Key External SitesOutlook backup plug-inThis add-in from Microsoft works with Outlook to make a backup of the data automatically each day to a new location. This can be used to 'push' copies of users' Outlook data to a central area for backup off-site using Backup Direct. Note that Backup Direct can backup Outlook directly, but this utility avoids installing Backup Direct on each PC. |
